
Windows Update Restart Error
Scenario
You have either just installed a Windows operating system on your computer or upgraded to a different version and while you wait for the update to complete, you are met with an error window telling you "The system has restarted unexpectedly". You then follow the instructions on screen and restart the system to continue, but the error still pops up causing a loop with the Windows update error message.

How to solve
Step 1.) When the error message window appears, press Shift + F10 to get a Command Prompt Window

Step 2.) In the Command Prompt window type "regedit" then press enter

Step 3.) Navigate to the following folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion

Step 4.) Click on the setup.exe file in the right-side panel
​
Step 5.) Change the value from 1 to 3
​

Click OK and restart the computer

This will get the Windows Update to continue, although it may restart
