JOB: Routine Maintenance
TASKS: Reset, clean, upgrade storage
TIME: 1 Hour (I don't count the Windows 1 download time)
I had a new client drop off a PC that needed some routine maintenance done
This job only took about 30 minutes to complete and was fun because I had never worked on an Alienware computer before, the computer was a Dell Alienware Aurora. The build was missing a couple of parts:
Optical drive power cable (it wasn't a regular sata cable)
Storage drive mounts
3 expansion slot covers
I was unable to get the optical drive working since I didn't have the specific cable but was able to mount the SSD and upgraded HDD using the old reliable zip ties.
The steps I took for everything inside the case:
Open up the case
Flip the power supply part of the case 90 degrees (I have never worked on a case like this)
unplug everything and remove the components (didn't have to remove the motherboard or water cooler)
Use my duster to remove all excess dust and dirt
Mount the SSD and HDD to their new spots inside with zip ties
Re-mount the Nvidia 2070
Connect the 24-pin to the motherboard
Re-mount the power supply
train the needed cables though
plug everything back in and the new HDD
Install new expansion slot covers
flip the power supply back down and lock it
Close the case back up
Now that the build was cleaned, it was time for step 2 of the job, reset and reinstall Windows 11
Turn on the build
Access the Administrator account
Reset the build through Windows settings
I used the cloud download option for Windows 11
Waited roughly 30 minutes for the download
The system restarted and was ready to use like new
Thats all it took to get this build refreshed and ready to roll, I also did a thorough cleaning for the outside of the case.
