Microsoft Edge Crashing

You are probably using Microsoft Edge because it's newer than Google Chrome, or you were tired of constantly getting pop-ups for switching. I've been using Edge for quite some time now and haven't even thought about opening Google Chrome because Microsoft Edge has all the settings and extensions I use and doesn't eat as much RAM.

From time to time, there will be errors and bugs in Microsoft Edge, some require a simple browser restart, while others will crash the browser and need more of a deep assessment of what's going on.

Before we get into this guide, check out my page on Microsoft Edge error codes and see if you can find any specific code that you may be looking for.

If you have thought about changing back to Google Chrome, I have a page comparing the two and explaining which one I prefer.

Microsoft Edge vs Google Chrome

Before getting into the guides, try some of the basic methods that could resolve the issue:

  • Restart the computer

  • Install the latest updates

  • Run a deep scan with the antivirus

  • Run the system troubleshooter

Repair and Reset Edge

This method only requires the system settings and Microsoft Edge. Before proceeding make sure you save anything on the browser you need to and close it, otherwise, the repair process can force close Edge.

Step 1.) Open the Windows system settings

Step 2.) Open the installed app settings

Step 3.) Search for Microsoft Edge, click the three dots then select Modify

Step 4.) You will now see a new window, select repair then follow the instructions the tool provides. The tool will uninstall and then reinstall the browser

This should resolve the crashing issue if it originated from the browser
